How long does the laser therapy session last?

Usually, the quit smoking session will last an hour or more. The actual treatment portion with the laser takes about ½ hour, and the counseling portion another ½ hour or more. There will, however, be several counseling sessions prior to the therapy appointment to help you prepare, if you choose.

Are there any risks involved in having a laser treatment?

For most people, there are no risks associated with laser treatment. There are a few conditions that would not permit one to be treated at this time such as pregnancy, undergoing radiation therapy, epilepsy and a few more. As always, if you have any concerns, check with your doctor before the session.

Is the laser treatment covered by insurance?

Since every insurance policy is different, you would have to check with your insurance carrier to know for sure. Also, I don’t know if it would help but ask your carrier if it would make a difference if you physician prescribed the treatment. (Getting a doctor to sanction anything but extremely harmful drugs that cost way more may be hard to do.)

What does a treatment cost?

Treatments are usually $345 but currently, due to the economy, I am offering the treatment for $275 ($250 if there are two or more people at the same session). The price includes a second follow up treatment anytime in the first six months if you feel you need or want one. This follow up treatment is free if the person has not returned to smoking. Also included in the price is travel to your home or place of business (slight additional charge if more than 25 miles) if that is more convenient for you. In thinking about the cost of the cost of treatment, you should remember that laser therapy costs roughly the same as buying cigarettes for a month. Also laser therapy is one of the least expensive methods for quitting smoking.

But more important to consider - what is not quitting smoking costing you both financially and physically?

Will I gain weight?

Unlike other methods of smoking cessation, weight gain is not usually a problem following laser therapy. However, since when someone quits smoking their metabolism does slow down; there is the potential for weight gain. So during low level laser treatment, the acupressure points responsible for increasing your metabolism and for appetite suppression are also triggered. This seems to aid in decreasing the likelihood of weight gain but one should be prepared to make lifestyle changes of healthier eating and exercise.

Is treatment guaranteed?

Treatment may help individuals cope with symptoms associated with nicotine withdrawal but it does not take away your psychological addiction to nicotine.

In each person the level of addiction varies as does their level of commitment to stopping cigarettes. Therefore, we cannot guarantee results but if our recommendations are followed, your chances of success will be greatly enhanced.
